Developing a continuous improvement and change culture in a leading Housing Partnership
What was the issue?
This leading Housing Partnership wanted to stay ahead of the game and of continue to improve. They wished to support their managers to support their own teams, to promote and retain high levels of engagement and motivation across the organisation.
Priding itself both internally and nationally recognised ( through National Awards) as being a great place to work; working hard as well as really enjoying what they do, they wanted to build on this firm foundation and not sit on their laurels and continually stay ‘on form’ and improve to both meet statutory and customer needs .
The CEO approached Marie with a brief on what they wanted to achieve. After some initial consultations with the senior team, including the HR Manager, an outline of options was generated to be discussed and agreed according to the budget available. As a result a number of bespoke events were designed to meet their specific needs (both organisational and individual), using accelerated learning techniques and brain friendly content. These events were facilitated with all of the management team over a number of dates to enable maximum availability and engagement.
The events were interactive, fun and progressive with some ‘light bulb’ moments experienced with a number of the delegates and with others a refresher or reassurance that they were on the ‘right track’ to create and foster the fertile environment to build and maintain a culture of continuous improvement and openness to positive change. Feedback was collected on the events and measures put in place to compare the ‘before’ and ‘after’ so that changes and improvements could be measured to evidence the return on investment.
Evaluation data and feedback gathered 6 months after events showed:
- Leadership team meets more regularly, now with more collaboration and focus on continuous improvement and the progress changes
- Improvement in the quality of communications, within and across teams both written and verbal is tangible
- Evidence to show individuals are feeling and acting in a more empowered way
- The further work on identifying organisational values was completed at the Staff Conference and the implementation and bringing them to life is working well in practice
- The ethos, principles and techniques of the workshops are being practiced and demonstrated by the leadership team
- Across the organisation there is a clear focus on ‘doing the right thing’
Clearly this is an on-going journey. As such to build in sustainability, this support going forwards has been designed to be provided in-house for the near future.
HR Manager’s feedback:
“We were particularly impressed with Marie’s ability to put together workshops that were very relevant and informative with just the right level of challenge, along with her engaging delivery style, which encouraged people to really get involved in the learning. The buzz in the room was amazing and everyone came away keen to put what they had learnt into practice. This work also supported the focus of our annual conference which involved the entire company in undertaking a root and branch review of organisational and individual values and designing a new model. I can safely say it was our most successful conference to date. I would recommend Marie as an excellent partner for any organisation undergoing transition or seeking to promote a sustainable high performance culture and a happy workforce.”
